Last year, I photographed a surprise proposal at the top of Grouse Mountain for a couple from Toronto, Ontario. A year later, I received an email from Josh’s coworker, Glen, asking me to help him plan his proposal to his girlfriend, Kamini!
Kamini grew up in West Vancouver and lived here before moving to Toronto for med school. She loves anything to do with the sea and the mountains so Glen really wanted to incorporate that into his proposal. Glen remembered a park they had visited on their last trip to Vancouver which had a circular picnic bench at the viewpoint, but he couldn’t remember the name of the park. I was almost certain the spot he remember was Whytecliff Park so I suggested we do the proposal there. Glen had arranged for Kamini to visit the spa for a mani and pedi to keep her distracted. He’d also gone as far as to arrange a surprise visit from her sister, Nandini, after he proposed!
I met with Nandini at Whytecliff Park to help set up the proposal spot. We spread a trail of rose pedals leading to a bouquet of flowers and a porcelain Tiffany’s ring box… with no ring! Instead, it had a little inside joke inside it. The actual ring was with Glen in his pocket of course. Glen and Kamini arrived at Whytecliff and I got some ninja shots of them walking toward the cliff. Kamini was so surprised by the flowers and porcelain box and thought it was hilarious, but she was absolutely shocked when Glen got down on one knee and popped the question. She said YES and that’s when both Glen and Kamini’s families popped out to congratulate the newly engaged couple.
I Snapped a quick family portrait with this beautiful backdrop then Glen, Kamini and I were off for a quick portrait session. These moments after a proposal are my favourite to photograph because of how genuine all the emotions are. After their quick portrait session at Whytecliff, Glen and Kamini headed over to English Bay to join the family for dinner. I met up with them again a few hours later for another quick 15 minute sunset session on the beach – it was the perfect way to end the evening!
Glen and Kamini, congratulations again on your engagement and I hope you have a wonderful wedding back in Toronto!
