This summer, I had the opportunity to photograph Cynthia and Dennis’ wedding up in Whistler, BC. Their weekends are spent up on the slopes shredding the gnar so it only made sense for them to get married up here as well!
The day started with an early morning drive from Vancouver to Whistler. It can be somewhat of a nod inducing drive, but I thankfully had the extremely talented Henry Zhang of Handsome Film Co. to accompany me on the drive. We’d been watching the weather forecast like hawks on the days leading up to the wedding praying and praying for a window of no rain. On the morning of the wedding, things were not looking so great, but we were prepared to shoot no matter what. Cynthia, Dennis, Henry and I had discussed a plan B (and C and D and E) in case things took a turn for the worst. Luckily, we were able to make it up to the mountain with a few modifications to the day and everything worked out. Transportation was taken care of by the crew at Blackcomb Helicopters and they did an astounding job (as usual).
Morning prep and details were taken care of at The Crystal Lodge in Whistler Village before being shuttled off to the helipad. We originally planned to do the first look up on the mountain, but since we were pressed for time due to the incoming storm, we decided to take care of it at the helipad before heading up. A quick blindfold fabrication out of some spare ties made sure Dennis wouldn’t be able to sneak a peek of his bride-to-be on our drive over to the pad. After the first look, we took off to the top of Rainbow Mountain and were greeted with astonishing views of the surrounding peaks. We had a ton of fun playing in the snow while capturing some epic footage and beautiful photographs.
After our mountaintop photoshoot, we flew back down and headed over to the Stone Circle at Alta Lake where we met up with the marriage commissioner and a few of Cynthia and Dennis’ closest friends and family. They exchanged their rings, said their I do’s and sealed the deal with a kiss. Things didn’t go exactly as planned, but the unexpected things are what make these occasions that much more memorable. Cyn and Dennis, congratulations again and thank you so much for having me photograph your wedding!
