This summer I had the opportunity to photograph Simon’s surprise proposal to his (now) fiancée, Emily. I met up with Simon a few weeks prior to the big day so we could bounce some ideas off of each other. The plans changed a fews times, but ultimately, he decided to rent a boat from Granville Island and head all the way up the Indian Arm to a spot called Granite Falls, which was about a 2 hour boat ride away.
It was Simon and Emily’s anniversary and his “gift” to her was a couples’ shot by me! This way, Emily wouldn’t suspect anything with this seemingly random photographer tagging along on their boat ride to this remote location.
It had been overcast pretty much the whole day which meant being on the water was a bit chillier than expected. Our journey started off at Granville Island, then we cruised out toward Stanley Park, under the Lion’s Gate and Second Narrows Bridge, then into deep cove and finally all the way up the Indian Arm. It was such a treat to see all these famous Vancouver landmarks from a different point of view.
Once we got to our spot the clouds started clearing up and we were adorned with majestic rays of light. We quickly docked the boat and headed up to the falls. Simon had put the gargantuan ring box in his front pocket so I had to distract and keep Emily’s eyes away from Simon’s secret package while we walked up the cliff. Once there, it was finally “go time”! Simon got down on one knee and asked Emily to spend the rest of her life with him. AND SHE SAID YES!
All the congratulations to you two and I hope you have a wonderful time planning the wedding! It’ll be a gorgeous one!
