I met Vince and Krystina three years ago when we moved into our home in the Olympic Village. Our paths would cross regularly when going up and down the elevators or walking through the halls because we literally lived right next door to each other. We’d chat about things like work and vacation and we even adopted our dogs around the same time. Our dogs don’t get along very well though… but that’s mainly because Nazko is about 20 times larger than Ginger and she’s terrified of him.
I always noticed a ring on Krystina’s finger, but I never had the guts to say anything because I didn’t want to shamelessly promote my work. Little did I know, Krystina and Vince had been admiring my photography all along. I had no idea until I got an email in my inbox from them inquiring about their wedding! We quickly set up a meeting at our local pub and discussed their wedding details and engagement locations over a few double IPA’s.
We attempted to do their engagement earlier in the year, but our plans were foiled by the inconsistent weather that defines Vancouver. We rescheduled for the following month and crossed our fingers for some decent weather. The shoot started off right in our backyards in the Olympic Village. They really wanted to include their dog, Ginger, in the shoot so this was the most convenient location because we could just drop her off at home before heading out to our next spot.
The next request for their shoot was to have a spot that captured both the outdoor culture of Vancouver and it’s city skyline. We started off in a little wooded area near the Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park underneath a magnolia tree. Vancouver was hit pretty hard with snowfall and low temperatures this winter so the grass was still a bit brown and the blossoms were still green and no where near blooming yet. It was ok though because it wasn’t raining and the overcast sky gave the light a nice filter. After that, we walked down to the sea wall for some more portraits before finishing off on the beach with the skyline behind us.
Krystina and Vince are getting married this weekend and I can’t wait for the world’s shortest commute to work! Thanks again, guys, for trusting in your neighbour to photograph you big day
