When I first met with Mike and Marcia, they told me they were going to have a very simple outdoor wedding in the middle of the forest. They knew this was right up my alley because of all the time I spend outside climbing and hiking. They also told me they were going to have two receptions… and a ball pit would be involved in one of them – yup, a ball pit. I was instantly on board.
Our initial engagement session was an instant success. We had so much fun working with each other so I knew that wedding day would be a breeze and a great experience for all of us. The day started off great. Marcia got ready at the beautiful Listel Hotel situated in downtown Vancouver.
Once the morning prep was done, we were off to meet Mike in Coal Harbour for the first meet – in the rain. When we all met the day before for the rehearsal, the weather was gorgeous. It was hot, sunny and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. However, the following day, the weather had pulled a complete 180 and we stuck with the rain. We weren’t phased though, we just grabbed a few umbrellas and embraced the typical Vancouver spring shower. I’d secured a cute little spot downtown for our first meet and portrait session, then were off to North Vancouver to be sheltered by the tall canopies of Capilano Forest Park where the ceremony would take place.
When we arrived, the spot was beautifully decorated by Marci and Mike’s friends with homemade DIY wind chimes. Marci would be guided down the aisle by her father, which was lined with candles and a fallen tree. The spot was absolutely perfect!
After a beautiful ceremony, we set off back to the Listel for some BC inspired (and sustainable) canapes crafted in the kitchen of Forage. After some mingling and toasts from friends and family, we set off to our second reception at the Coal Harbour Community Centre.
The party had already started. Moves were being busted out on Dance Dance Revolution, ghouls were being chased away by Mrs. Pac Man, streets were being ripped up on Daytona USA and cannon balls were being dropped into the ball pit. This was definitely the funnest wedding reception I have ever been to.
Mike and Marci, your kindness and light heartedness are truly infectious! It was such a pleasure working with you and being a part of your amazing day!
