As some of you may (or may not) know, I have a huge passion for anything to do with the great outdoors. I’ve been rock climbing for about 10 years now and I have so many amazing people along the way – all of whom I would trust my life with… literally. When couples hire me to photograph their weddings, I feel like they are instilling the same amount of trust in my abilities to capture their special day beautifully. These relationships are priceless and I am always greatly honoured to be there for them with my camera.
When Val and Charran first contacted me and told me they’d be getting married in Squamish, I was so excited. Squamish is a huge part of our lives and just screams West Coast! The three of us spend as much time as possible up there. They wanted to incorporate the essence of Squamish into their wedding so we decided to do a little tour of the town. The day started off with their first look at Porteau Cove just outside of Squamish – you can see the look of delight in Val’s face as he see’s Charran for the first time in her beautiful dress. We found some amazing spots around the cove to shoot some portraits earlier in the day and took full advantage of the sun peeking through the thick clouds.
Next, we were off the Paradise Valley a bit North of Squamish – this place is truly paradise! It’s located in the Squamish Valley so the light looks totally different here. The sun hides behind the mountains and gives everything a beautiful glow, the only thing is that it “sets” much earlier than the rest of Squamish and MUCH MUCH earlier than downtown Vancouver. On our tour, we stopped by a popular climbing spot next to the Tenderfoot Fish Hatchery where we had some amazing light. After a few portraits here next to the Rock Lady Boulder, we were off to The Spit to get married!
The ceremony was a beautifully simple one surrounded by just a few family and friends. Charran and Val had originally picked a spot on the spit in the Squamish River, but the water level was too high at this time of day. Fortunately, there was a quiet little beach with a gorgeous view of the Tantalus Range in the background – you could not have asked for a more perfect spot!
Val and Charran, congratulations again! It was so much fun spending the day with the two of you in Squamish! Enjoy your honeymoon and I’ll see the two of you back in the gym!
