“Nice to meet you” is not a common phrase you hear on the day of your wedding – especially not one you would expect to hear from your photographer, but such was the case for Rachel and Matt’s wedding. When Rachel and I first chatted, she’d told me of her plans to get married on top of a mountain and was looking for THE photographer to capture those “epic moments”. She found me through some searching over the internet and I’d conveniently just photographed an elopement on the mountain where her and Matt would be married! A few months went by and the anticipation of photographing this wedding was welling up inside of me, but as was a sense of nervousness since I’d never met with this couple in person.
When the day finally came, I met Matt at the helipad and we instantly hit it off while chatting about our outdoor adventures. We flew up to Rainbow Mountain along with his parents and our guide and the view was absolutely astonishing. It was still quite early in the season (late spring) so there was still quite a bit of snow up on the mountain. We landed near a beautiful glacial lake that was just beginning to thaw – I’d never seen water so clear and blue in my life! This was the spot where they would say their vows to each other. I quickly set Matt up on a rock to get a few portraits then we waited for Rachel’s grand entrance.
Rachel arrived in her red chariot and we finally had a chance to say our hellos in person. After a quick first look and a touching introduction from Rachel’s brother, it was time for Matt and Rachel to exchange their beautiful vows to each other.
The afternoon went off without a hitch up until it was time for us to leave. A storm was brewing at the peak of the mountain and was just starting to make its way down to where we were. After our quick portrait session, we packed it up and were off back to the helipad. This was my second helicopter experience and I feel so honoured to have been trusted with the task of preserving these moments for Rachel and Matt. Thanks again!!
