Bring me back. Bring me back to that glorious mid-July day where I photographed the union of two of the most incredible people I’ve ever met: Daniel and Sammani. Dan and Sam were not my typical Vancouver soon-to-be wed couple – in fact, they weren’t from Vancouver at all! Dan and Sam hail from all the way in London, England. They came across my work through their googling while planning this international wedding and decided to have me as their photographer after a meeting over Skype in our pj’s – I was told the competition was fierce!
I didn’t get to meet Dan and Sam in person until just a week before their wedding, which was the day we’d scheduled their engagement session (which I will eventually post because the photos are amaaaazing). This would be their first real time visiting Vancouver so we had a great time driving through downtown Vancouver, through Stanley Park and over into the North Shore.
Wedding day began with me photographing a few getting ready photos of Sam at their Airbnb flat in the Olympic Village and Ryan photographing Dan at a Hotel downtown. Before long, it was time to set out to Jericho park for their first look. We’d set Dan up by himself under a tall willow tree where he would await for that tap on the shoulder. His reaction to Sam in her stunning lace wedding dress was priceless! We continued our portrait session in the park and also made our way over to the beach for a few shots with the iconic North Shore as the backdrop.
Before long, it was time to head over to Brock House for the ceremony which was held under the iconic maple tree on the north lawn. Guests from all over the world were starting to arrive to celebrate this intimate wedding and I was told that this would be the first time for many of these friends and family to meet each other – it was quite the sight!
A short cocktail hour followed the ceremony where guests had a chance to mingle a little bit with the newly weds before sitting down for the reception. The food was abundant and the drinks were flowing. That, combined with a spectacular view of the setting sun, made for an incredible night to remember. Dan and Sam, I’m so happy to have met the two of you and to have played such an important part in your lives. I truly hope that our paths will cross again one of these days. Congratulations again!
